There’s a new owner-operator of Gonzo’s Bar.
Luis Gonzalez has sold his Scottsdale, AZ, home with the aptly named man cave. The retired Arizona Diamondbacks star and World Series hero began shopping the desert dwelling in November, according to our pals at Busted Coverage.
Located roughly 20 minutes from Chase Field, the 1997-built home has four bedrooms, six bathrooms and a little over 6,600 square feet of living space. Sporting a modern touch, the luxury spread features vaulted ceilings, marble flooring and granite countertops.
A chef’s kitchen comes complete with a center island and breakfast bar, and the aforementioned wet bar is set off of a large family room. In addition to a pool and spa area, the athlete’s former spread has what has become a trend among desert-dwelling sports stars: a full sports court area with tetherball and a screened basketball court.
Last, but certainly not least, a private guest house can be found at the rear of the nearly one-acre property.
Originally listed for nearly $2 million, the home closed in late January for $70,000 less than Gonzo’s original asking price of $1.925 million. Gonzalez originally paid $1.6 million for the home in 1999, his first season with the Diamondbacks.
Gonzalez, 46, spent nearly a decade playing for the Houston Astros, Chicago Cubs and Detroit Tigers before landing in Arizona. There, the outfielder developed into a bonafide All-Star, making five appearances in baseball’s mid-summer classic. Of his many achievements, he is best remembered for hitting the game-winning single off of New York Yankees closer Mariano Rivera in the bottom of the 9th inning of Game 7 in the 2001 World Series.
